Christmas gift suggestions.

From my Sojourners Verse and Voice email the other day:

“Christmas gift suggestions:
To your enemy, forgiveness.
To an opponent, tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.
To yourself, respect.”

Merry Christmas from the Sunshine State.

These last 4.5 months have simply flown past. It’s now time for a very un-“White Christmas.”

The high? It’s fixin’ to be 74 degrees on Christmas day.

So, funny thing about Florida, they have these in their stores:

Target. It’s a steal for 169.99.

Anyways. As the year wraps up, I’ve been thinking a lot about 2009. Where I’ve been. Where I’m going. Who I’ve become. What I’ve improved. What I’ve slacked in.

It’s been quite a year of a lot of ups and downs. I’ve never fully appreciated my friends and family really until this year, when everything seemingly was tested. I went to the Inauguration in D.C. My first grandparent died. I’ve got grades I’m not proud of in school. I passed senior seminar on the second go-around. My newspaper staff kicked ass at state competition. Within the next few days I had a good number of people upset with me for choosing to run an important story. Newspapers were stolen.

There was more drama to round out the year, then I finally graduated. Then life was like looking into the giant void. By the grace of God a newspaper contacted me (does that even happen much anymore?), I interviewed twice this summer, and in August, I had a new apartment in this strange land of Florida.

Then work has swallowed up the last four and a half months. But I won’t complain. I’m blessed to have this job and this work and this warm weather when so many people are out of work and freezing their butts off.

But anyways. Who knows what 2010 will bring? I certainly do not. I do know I’ll be spending the first four days in D.C., which is making me so excited. I have an unhealthy obsession with that place.

But things I hope for 2010: new friends, health of family members, strengthened relationships with old friends, and healing of relationships that have been severed. I really would like that last one…but you can’t do God’s job. He has to work in His time to begin to heal people’s hearts. Mine included.

If anyone is reading this, whoever you are, thanks for reading. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Much love.
